Welcome to Herndon

Set among the rolling hills of Fairfax County, Herndon is a scenic small town just miles from the big city. Originally a dairy farming hub and vacation spot for local residents, Herndon’s proximity to the storied Washington and Old Dominion Railroad quickly solidified its reputation as one of Virginia’s best places to call home, a standing it’s held ever since. With the town of Herndon known as an historic destination in its own right, residents here are endlessly proud of their home’s heritage, which dates all the way back to the 1850’s. An important piece of the town’s history, in fact, is the little red caboose that stands at its center, harkening back to the heyday of the railroad that once facilitated access to our nation’s capital. Today, venturing out has never been so easy with the Fairfax Connector Bus and the East Falls Church Metro at your fingertips. Meanwhile, business travelers or vacationers can head just six miles west to Dulles International Airport for instant access to the sights and sounds of the world around them.

Despite the fact that convenient commuting is a way of life here, Herndon itself offers up plenty of local attractions that are accessible from the comfort of home. Channel your inner athlete by biking—or running—the esteemed W&OD trail that runs right through Herndon from Shirlington to Purcellville, or experience the delights of farm life at Frying Pan Park, where visitors can see the newest animal arrivals, embark on wagon rides, and tour the 1930s-style farmhouse. Escape Room Herndon is yet another family-friendly activity that is sure to please, evidenced by its five-star Yelp rating. And Friday nights just got a whole lot more exciting with Friday Night Live, a free concert series with food and drinks served on the picturesque town green.
